IRGQ: A novel protein target for cancer therapeutics

November 20, 2024

Lysosomes are organelles that specialize in autophagy – the process of breaking down macromolecules such as proteins. By regulating what builds up in the cell and what is degraded, lysosome autophagy plays a key role in tumor progression. In this webinar, protein and cancer biology expert Dr. Vinay Eapen discusses his career and his recent work in Cell identifying a novel protein involved in lysosome autophagy, highlighting its potential as a target in cancer therapies.

Dr. Vinay Eapen is a Senior Scientist at a Flagship Pioneering startup. He received his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from Brandeis University, and went on to complete postdoctoral training at both the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Eapen is passionate about discovering new disease targets and novel drug effectors, especially in the fields of mitochondrial-lysosomal biology, oncology, and targeted protein degradation.
